August 2008 Meeting

At its August 2008 meeting, FSB members elected as Vice Chair Donald E. Vermeil of Palo Alto, California.  FSB Chair Shirley M. Green also presented Member Linnet F. Deily with a certificate of appreciation for her dedicated service to the Board; Ms. Deily’s term ends in September 2008.

The Chair briefed the Board about her participation in the Near East Fulbright Regional Workshop that took place in March 2008 in Cairo, Egypt.  It was hosted by the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.  She also briefed the Board about her participation in April 2008 in the Conference of Fulbright Executive Directors from Europe in Athens, Greece, which was hosted by the U.S. Greece Fulbright Foundation during its 60th Anniversary year.  The Chair briefed the Board as well about the closing symposium of the Fulbright New Century Scholars (NCS) Program which she attended in March 2008 in Washington, DC.

A highlight of the FSB quarterly meeting was a presentation by Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Goli Ameri who briefed the Board about her priorities for expanding people-to-people exchanges by strengthening the Bureau’s public-private collaboration and partnerships, engaging the alumni of the programs of the Bureau, and finding new ways to use technology to reach wider audiences and achieve the goals of the Bureau.
