Student Testimonials at the February 2008 Meeting
 | Taika Dahlbom (Finland) Smithsonian Institution – Archives Cultural History
The greatest life lesson I’ve learned during my Fulbright year is, “Ask, don’t assume.” It applies to everything from multi-national social relations to academic research and teaching; considerate listening and sharing knowledge lead to true communication and the creative power to build something new. | | | Nelson Latimer Katabula (Uganda) Eastern Mennonite University – Washington, DC Internship Political Science Graduate Student of Conflict Transformation
To me, Fulbright is not just an education program, but a BRAND. Yes, I have talked to many good people here but when I mention that I am a Fulbright Scholar, "oh really?" is one of the common answers I get, with a big smile on their faces. And the conversation goes on and on and on. So, Fulbright is another gateway to the world. | | | Matias Obludzyner (Argentina) George Washington University – Columbian College of Arts & Sciences Public Administration
Fulbright provided me the opportunity of having a real cross-cultural experience and a first level academic education. This experience helped me to meet amazing people from the United States and different parts of the world. I learned lessons that made me understand that, with true passion, it is possible to make a positive difference in my region. | | | Aaron Pratts (United States to Malaysia) International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP) Fulbright English Teaching Assistant 2005
My Fulbright experience in Malaysia was more than just teaching English as a foreign language; I assisted instructors with all of their subjects taught in English including math, science, and music. It was also much more than teaching in Malaysia because learning about the ways of Malaysia- its people, their religion, culture, and language is something that I continue to reflect on and further define. I realize since returning from Malaysia that my Fulbright experience is far from over since I have become part of the alumni network and now share my experience with others. | | | Clarice Sandoval Munaro (El Salvador) American University – College of Arts and Sciences Environmental Sciences
Being a Fulbright scholar is a dream come true, that is allowing me to pursue my master’s degree in Global Environmental Policy and at the same time it is paving the way to achieve my professional goals. The experience is full of surprises as if suddenly the world opened its doors, and its panorama stands in front of your eyes. | |
