Wafo Ndetatsin Blaise of Cameroon On May 19 2006, I had the honor to be invited to participate in a student panel during the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board Meeting. The other three students on the panel and I were asked to give our opinion about the Fulbright program in particular and the IIE work in general. I was very surprised and happy by the seriousness and the attention of the board members. They were all taking notes and asking questions. I particularly talked about the lack of information about the Fulbright program among French speakers in my country and the central Africa region in general. It was really a pleasure not only to notice that students' opinions are given a lot of considerations, but also to see and have an idea of how people work hard to keep the program alive. Long live the Fulbright Scholarship. Ana Paula Karruz of Brazil On May 19, 2006 I had the opportunity to participate in the Panel of Fulbright Students during the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board's Quarterly Meeting. I really appreciate that opportunity. It was a unique chance to interact with the members of the Board, who showed themselves very interested in listening to the students' comments, as well as in addressing our major concerns.
In this meeting, I talked about my background spoke about the terms of my fellowship, which is co-sponsored by the Brazilian Government.
I am grateful that I had a chance to participate in this meeting. Thank you. Kristi Hakkaja of Estonia My Fulbright experience in the George Washington University has been very positive. The school provides very good education and Washington, DC as a city is a fascinating place to be. I have met people from all over the world and this has significantly increased my awareness of cultures in regions that have been relatively distant for me prior to coming to the US (e.g. Latin America, Asia, Africa, Middle East). I have also gained a much better understanding of the US society, economy and politics, and gained several good friends. This has also been very helpful for my academic work in regard to analyzing the differences between economic structures of Europe and the US. There is so much to do and learn that the two years just fly by. I have also very much enjoyed meeting other Fulbright students and just wish that there had been more occasion for it. At the end of the day, I am confident that after I am done with my studies I will bring home many useful contacts and will hopefully leverage those in some future collaborative projects.
