Fulbright FLTA from Indonesia teaching Bahasa Indonesian at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington DC.
“There comes a time in everyone's life when the tide has turned and everything seems to be in your favor - some call it luck, fortune, or good karma -- before the wheel of life turns again. When this happens we are given the chance to leave a lasting impression on our lives, and those of others. The opportunity I have as a Fulbrighter is exactly the kind of situation I am talking about - in this case, my own personal luck/fortune/good karma….So far, my Fulbright experience has been everything I hoped it would be and more. It has opened a door I was only able to peek in before. It has led me to a better understanding of the international world, of the American people and their culture, and even a better understanding and appreciation of my own country and culture. I have had the first hand experience that America is more than just the "Hollywood" world; that Americans are friendly, kind and full of life; and that we - although right across the globe - can actually live hand-in-hand in harmony. I am very proud to be in this Fulbright family…”

Fulbright FLTA from Saudi Arabia teaching Arabic at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington DC.
“I really believe that my experience as a Fulbrighter has been the most intellectual experience in my whole life. I have been involved in many activities since my arrival in Washington, DC, such as being a cultural consultant for the Meridian International Center, attending an efta’ar dinner at the State Department where I met Secretary Rice, and having lunch with the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board members. I am so happy to be a Fulbrighter. I hope this experience will help me to improve mutual understanding between my people in Saudi Arabia and people here in United States. I encourage everyone who has the chance to participate in this program to join the elite and be a Fulbrighter.”
Joana Mantey
Humphrey Fellow from Ghana studying journalism at the University of Maryland.
“I am a radio broadcaster from Ghana spending a year in the U.S.A under the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship. Winning the fellowship is one of the best things to happen to me. Like a key it is unlocking doors to new frontiers in my life and career. Now my thought patterns have changed. I no longer worry about what I could have done given the chance; rather my focus is on planning how best to utilize my time to take better advantage of the limitless opportunities the program offers…. I have the chance to learn new approaches to online journalism and working with graphics next semester, not to mention other courses at the University open to me as a Humphrey fellow so long as I have the strength for that….Four months have passed since the start of the program but I still feel like someone standing on the dawn of a new day which promises great things…. I am sure that by dusk when the sun begins to set and it becomes time to go home I will have achieved my goal of maximizing my potential and be ready to motivate change, not only in my work environment, but the Ghanaian society at large."

"My Humphrey year has been a gift in my life. A time to think about myself, my family and my work. It's giving me the chance to reconnect with my deepest longings and dreams of a harmonious and beautiful Ecuador, the country that we deserve to live in and that we collectively can create. I feel energized by the people that I'm meeting and the experiences that I’m Iiving. Being away from my family and my country is expanding my love and commitment of going back and continue working."
